Can I Obtain Real Estate Advice
Without Contacting a REALTOR®

Well, that's not completely true. Nearly everybody has real estate advice to offer. Some of it might even be good advice.

You could ask your neighbour or your uncle or the cashier at the grocery store if they have any experience. You could ask your doctor or accountant if they know anything about real estate. They may have had experiences - good and bad - and would likely enjoy sharing the (questionable) benefit of their (limited) experience. Nearly everybody will have an opinion. But whether those opinions hold any value is another thing.

Bottom line - you'll get what you pay for. Free advice is usually not dependable and is free for a reason.

You may think hiring a professional is expensive.
But wait until you hire an amateur

How do you get the best legal advice? Call a lawyer or paralegal.

How do you get reliable wellness advice? Call a good health care provider.

How do you get dependable financial advice? Call a recommended financial services adviser.

Where to find the best real estate advice?

Call an honest, experienced REALTOR®. And since you shouldn't hire the cheapest doctor, lawyer, building contractor or financial manager, I suggest that you don't shop for the cheapest real estate agent either.

If you're contemplating buying or selling privately, that is without the guidance of a professional real estate agent, I invite you to explore this site for help on this potentially rocky route.

If you're seeking real estate advice and/or plan to buy or sell city, suburban, freehold, condo or rural real estate anywhere in Ontario, contact me. I may be able to recommend a good agent for you.

I invite you to check out the rest of my website for valuable advice that will be applicable to virtually anywhere you are in the western world, and possibly beyond. I enjoy visitors from around the world, though most are from North America.

Visit the The Canadian Real Estate Association for more. Or visit the site of The National Association of REALTORS in the USA.

If you're considering selling your home, with or without an agent, check out my book The Happy Agent. It contains the sum total of the real estate knowledge, philosophies and techniques that I've accumulated, practiced and polished during a highly successful 40-year realty career.

Learn how to effectively evaluate your home and prepare it for market to maximize the ultimate sale price, how to market and advertise effectively, how to handle showings and open houses like a pro, how to successfully negotiate an offer and more. If you're trying to sell privately, you'll learn how to recognize the signs of when it's time to throw in the towel and hire a professional and what to expect from them with respect to real estate advice.

When you consider the huge possible savings in real estate commission with a private sale attempt and the fact that you're dealing with your largest single financial asset, a small investment of your time and a pittance of your money could save you thousands of dollars and a ton of heartache. At the very least, you'll be encouraged to try it alone, at least for awhile. Remember - knowledge is power.

Available virtually everywhere print and e-books are sold.
